RIFT Headstart Begins Today

There's nary a week left before the official North American launch of Rift, and developer Trion Worlds confirms that one million user accounts for the MMO have been created to date, the first in what they hope will be many milestones as they vie for World of Warcraft's gold-studded throne.

If the feedback to our own beta key giveaways last year was any indication, Rift is hotly anticipated!  Trion Worlds believs Rift has both the production values and product differentiation to stand against the "current incumbent"; since they're always eyed a subscription business model for Rift, they've set the MMO's quality bar high to make it worth the shot.


Rift's "Head Start" advance play period has also kicked off for players who pre-ordered the game, granting them early access to the servers before the floodgates open next week.

If you haven't pre-ordered yet but want to get in on the action, Rift pre-orders are still available at RiftGame.com and the special Founder’s Subscription plan will be available until March 15th.

Trion allows you to upgrade from Standard to Collector's using their account interface

Just discovered this today, but if you log into your Trion World's account, click on manage games, and under rift, if you've already purchased the standard edition, there's an option to upgrade to the collector's for $10.00.

I assume this'll be active at least until the head start, but I figured I'd let you know, especially those who haven't been able to get keys from D2D.

It'll probably be around for awhile considering you are paying $10 for 3 digital items.

ALL pre-orders get to participate in the head start

I know there is a lot of confusion and completely wrong information floating about in game about the head start and who gets to participate. I've seen numerous people who believe that pre-ordering the digital collector's edition is the only way to participate. This is completely wrong.

According to Abigale, Sr. Community Manager on the official Rift forums, anybody who has pre-ordered the game will have access to the head start. That's pre-ordering the digital copy or physical copy, collector's edition or standard edition. All you need is the code that's given to you when you pre-order the game. Example: if you ordered it at Gamestop they will have given you a receipt with the code printed somewhere around the middle of the receipt. So please, let your friends know that they don't have to settle for the digital copy if they don't want to.

TL;DR: All pre-orders can participate in the head start, regardless if it's standard or collectors, digital or physical.

Rift – Dev Blog and Endgame Introduction
